Bapi Murmu is a filmmaker and cinematographer from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, associated with VPRA Entertainment. He is passionate about filmmaking, visual storytelling, and the development of regional cinema, particularly the growth and recognition of Santali cinema within the larger landscape of Indian film.
He completed both his Graduation and Post-Graduation in Mass Communication from Karim City College, Jamshedpur, where he developed a strong academic and practical understanding of film studies, media production, and cinematography. His education helped shape his interest in filmmaking, camera work, and storytelling through visual media.
As a filmmaker and cinematographer, Bapi Murmu works on projects including documentaries, short films, and independent media productions, contributing through cinematography, visual composition, and creative collaboration. His work focuses on capturing authentic narratives and visually engaging stories that reflect culture, people, and everyday experiences.
Alongside his filmmaking work, he has also served as a visiting faculty at Karim City College, Jamshedpur, where he shares his knowledge and practical experience in filmmaking and cinematography with students studying mass communication and media production. Through teaching and mentorship, he encourages young filmmakers to explore storytelling through cinema.
One of the key aspects of Bapi Murmu’s creative vision is his commitment to the development and recognition of Santali cinema. He actively works toward supporting films and visual narratives that represent Santali culture, language, and community stories, helping strengthen the identity and visibility of Santali films in the regional and national film landscape.
With a deep passion for cinema, photography, and storytelling, Bapi Murmu continues to contribute to documentary filmmaking, cinematography, and regional film production, while supporting the growth of Santali cinema and indigenous storytelling traditions through visual media.
